The “Borki” Recreation Center is the most popular body of water in the city; it serves as a place for active recreation, swimming, and amateur sports for residents, as well as a venue for numerous sporting and cultural events. The “Borki” reservoir covers an area of 12 ha, is 850 m long, and 230 m wide. A new bike path and a walking trail approximately 2 km long run around the reservoir. During the summer season, the Center provides visitors with sports equipment (balls, beach volleyball nets, table tennis paddles) and operates a water sports rental service (kayaks, pedal boats, SUP boards). In addition, the resort features, near the swimming area, 4 beach volleyball courts, a grass soccer field, 4 mini basketball courts, a complex of 11 tennis courts, a children’s playground, and a seasonal food service outlet. The “Borki” Reservoir is a run-of-the-river reservoir created by damming the Mleczna River with a headwall and a weir. The reservoir basin was shaped within a natural river valley. To limit siltation in the reservoir, two sedimentation ponds were constructed at the inflow. The “Borki” Reservoir was built in the 1960s for the recreational use of local residents. The “Borki” Reservoir is surrounded by green spaces with numerous plantings, mainly deciduous and coniferous trees as well as ornamental shrubs. The reservoir’s natural and landscape complex serves as a refuge for many species of plants and animals, primarily waterfowl. In addition, the reservoir is home to over a dozen species of fish.
